Online Poker Security

Introduction.

Being a keen online poker fan you’ll no doubt be registered with several online poker websites and will enjoy playing multiple games during your poker sessions. A problem with belonging to a lot of different websites is that in finding the ones you like and trust, you will inevitably come across ones that you don’t like or even worse don’t trust! Well here at advanced poker play we’re all for maintaining good internet security so we hope you’ll find the following about online poker security helpful to you.

What you could lose!

To play at an online poker table that allows you to gamble at it, whether using chips you purchase before starting to play or straight cash, by not checking that the poker website is a secure one you could lose a lot more than the amount you’re playing with. To begin with you have to register your name and address with them, just for the right to sit at the poker table – and already that’s enough information for an identity fraud to be perpetrated against you. Next you need to register either credit card or bank details with them – at which point they could just withdraw cash or make charges against you at will. Finally there’s the risk that it will simply be a crooked internet poker game that’s loaded against you, meaning you might just as well hand over your bank roll rather than buying chips or placing bets.

Is it a secure and safe site?

To determine if it is a safe site when entering personal or financial details, transferring money and even playing a game of poker at least look for a padlock symbol in the website address bar or taskbar. Even better, check that the webpage address begins https, rather than just http, which is a better indicator of good security levels. Regarding whether to trust a poker website, follow these quick guidelines: is it up front about where the website is domiciled and regulated, does it have good customer service and, perhaps most importantly, is it already a popular site with other poker players and poker professionals?
